Purpose of india.ewasteguide.info

Vision

The Indian e-Waste Guide is designed to serve as a knowledge base on e-waste recycling with a focus on India. The Website combines:

  • existing knowledge on e-waste recycling gained in industrialised countries

  • experience gathered in e-waste projects in developing and transition countries

  • knowledge and information contributed voluntarily by any user of this Website.

Objectives

The Indian e-Waste Guide aims at becoming the primary information platform for organisations in India dealing with e-waste issues. It provides:

  • knowledge on e-waste

  • combined experience derived from different e-waste recycling systems

  • suggestions concerning sustainable e-waste recycling systems in developing and transition countries.

Support

This Indian e-Waste Guide is being developed under the aegis of the seco funded programme "Knowledge Partnerships in e-Waste Recycling" or for short the Swiss e-Waste Programme.

Identifying e-waste as a potential problem and opportunity, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (seco) mandated the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA) to study the situation of e-waste recycling in developing and transition countries.

Switzerland has been successfully operating an e-waste management system for more than 15 years. Empa from the beginning is part or leading the technical control bodies for the Swiss system operators. The programme is envisaged to share knowledge and experience gained through this system and to establish "Knowledge Partnerships in e-Waste Recycling".

The Indian e-Waste Guide is supported and updated by Empa. It is well interconnect with ewasteguide.info, where the case studies from Switzerland, India, China, South Africa, Chile and Colombia are included.
